Free Support for Appalachian Outdoor Recreation

Outdoor recreation has the power to strengthen local economies, improve public health, and connect people to the places they call home. Through the Appalachia United Outdoors (AUO) Community of Practice, Trust for Public Land (TPL) is helping communities across Appalachia build the knowledge, partnerships, and capacity needed to create and sustain impactful outdoor recreation projects.

Through their latest online program, our friends at Trust for Public Land are helping communities across Appalachia expand outdoor recreation opportunities and unlock vital economic dollars for our region.

How does this work for our community? The first opportunity to get involved is a completely FREE Virtual Learning & Networking workshop series, taking place this fall. Across three interactive sessions, participants will learn from regional experts about building outdoor recreation economies, engaging communities, and creating a shared vision for future projects.

The series is open to municipalities, counties, nonprofit organizations, and Tribal entities located within the Appalachian Regional Commission's service area.

    Workshop Schedule:

    • September 10: Outdoor Recreation Economies: Benefits and Risks

    • October 8: Messaging & Engagement for Community-Led Vision

    • November 5: Your Outdoor Recreation Vision and Framework

Participants who complete the workshop series will receive priority access to AUO's upcoming one-on-one Research & Project Support program, which will provide selected communities with customized research, mapping, coaching, and capacity-building assistance to help bring outdoor recreation projects from concept to implementation.

Registration for the virtual workshop series is free and open now through September 8.

    PEDA Annual Stakeholder Update

    Thursday, August 20, 2026

Last month, we shared that PEDA is replacing our annual series of "regional member meetings" with a PEDA Annual Stakeholder Update, a single statewide conversation designed to bring together economic development professionals, community partners, members, and emerging leaders from across Pennsylvania.

This virtual forum will allow us to create one shared conversation around the issues, opportunities, and priorities impacting our industry and association statewide, while making participation easier regardless of location or schedule. Participants will benefit from receiving updates on PEDA's priorities and initiatives, committee activities, advocacy efforts, upcoming programs and events, and opportunities to become more involved with the association. There will also be time for questions, discussion, and participant feedback.

Registration is now open and we invite you to use the following button to register to participate.

    Register Today

We hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the Commonwealth and to participate in this important statewide conversation. We look forward to having you with us.
