    Action Alert

The Pennsylvania Economic Development Association (PEDA) is asking the Commonwealth to allocate the remaining federal ARPA and/or State Rainy Day Funds for a continued focus on economic development recovery to offset the economic damage created by COVID-19. Specifically, funding is needed for:

    • Recapitalization of economic development programs such as PIDA, Business in Our Sites (BOS) and the Industrial Sites Reuse Program (ISRP), among others, as well as the potential establishment of new programs to be administered by Certified Economic Development Organizations (CEDOs).
    • Creation of an economic development training initiative to meet the needs of economic development organizations positioned to administer current and future state financing programs throughout the Commonwealth. As a professional association, PEDA has a proven track record of providing high quality training to its members and partners and is well positioned to serve as the lead organization for providing ongoing professional development and technical assistance training to economic development organizations as they maintain and expand their business "one stop" concierge services.
    • Establishment of an independent Revolving Loan Fund (RLF), designed to specifically fill critical gaps not covered by existing programs or funding sources.

Please lend your voices to these efforts by utilizing the information available through PEDA’s Legislative Action Center. Based on your preferences, you may opt to contact your legislators directly via the Center’s “Compose Your Message” tool or, alternatively, to copy and customize the sample letter provided.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Calling Young Professionals

Over the past several years, and with the help of a number of generous supporters, PEDA has continued its efforts to attract and engage young professionals – typically defined as economic developers aged 40 and under – to the association. PEDA is pleased to share that, at its most recent Board of Directors meeting, a Young Professionals Committee of the association was formally established.

The purpose of this email is to invite young professionals from PEDA’s membership to consider joining this committee. Interested members will have the opportunity to build their professional networks by joining their peers – from across the Commonwealth – in developing what is sure to be an impactful undertaking. The committee’s first meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 10/6/21, at 1:00 pm, on site at the 2021 PEDA Fall Conference (though we are pursuing a remote option for interested parties unable to attend this initial meeting in person).

PEDA members interested in participating in this committee are asked to please email Josh Skopp at jskopp@peda.org to be added to the roster.

The 2021 PEDA Fall Conference kicks off, live in King of Prussia, PA, on October 6th. A great lineup is planned and we're pleased to welcome Keynote Presenter Nancy Walsh, a small business and leadership expert, who will reflect on the experiences of starting a new business in the midst of a pandemic and coaching individuals and teams through the fear, frenzy and opportunities of 2020. Throughout this interactive session, she will discuss the importance of connection, the problem-solving magic of appreciative inquiry and the "twin super-powers of leadership" (self-awareness and empathy).

Some of the other topics to be addressed during the conference are the role of EDOs in fostering diversity, equity and inclusiveness; the role of improvement districts in economic development; the demystification of RACP; the transformation of urban and suburban Philadelphia in the 21st century and more. We hope you'll join us in King of Prussia this October!
